Two individuals have been taken into custody as an element of an investigation into the illegal deposit of many thousands of metric tons of waste in a field in the county of Oxfordshire.

Officials stated that a 69-year-old was arrested at a residence in Andover, Hampshire, while a 54-year-old was taken into custody in Slough, Berkshire in relation with the massive mound of waste dumped near Kidlington.

These arrests occur a week after a prior report which revealed the operation of in excess of 500 unauthorized dumps throughout England, encompassing at a minimum of 11 so-called "large-scale sites" bigger than 20,000 tons.

"Our government is pledged to stamping out this kind of criminality in the nation, by increasing funds to tackle waste crime, hiring more staff and implementing more severe checks and penalties for those who flout the law."

The arrests were made on a recent Thursday by agents from a dedicated serious crime unit and follow an prior apprehension of a 39-year-old from the Guildford area area in November. He was let go pending further inquiries.
