Iran Reports Assault on US Base in Bahrain, During Regional Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing assault against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is not yet known and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.
Additional Developments
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with notable success and shot down a number of missiles," it added.
The statement noted debris fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
