Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's understandable for questions to be raised about his position following a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from management,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to change things and secure a win obviously but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Problems and Squad Reaction
The manager highlighted familiar weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a spell such as this with results so bad.”
Jones stated, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to the top, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
