The Details Known Regarding the Fatalities of the Bondi Beach Terror Attack

At least 16 individuals were killed and over 40 were wounded when assailants shot at a Hanukah gathering at Bondi Beach, an incident local police have labeled a terrorist attack.

As of the newest reports, officials have stated the number of fatalities is 16, which includes one of the alleged gunmen. Furthermore, 42 people with injuries were admitted to medical facilities.

The victims are still awaiting formally identified, but investigators think their ages are between 10 and 87 years of age.

Below are the individuals who have been identified so far.

Eli Schlanger

London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.

Known as a father-of-five, he worked as the associate rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and friends remembered him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very warm outgoing person who loved to help people”.

“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a relative asked.

Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the arrival of their newest son just a few months ago.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, as stated by his wife.

She recounted the moments leading up to the shooting, saying they had been standing together when the gunfire erupted. “He shielded me because he wished to be near me,” she stated.

The pair were both Holocaust survivors, having experienced immense hardship in their youth. They had subsequently relocated to Australia from Eastern Europe.

Dan Elkayam

The French authorities have confirmed that French man Dan Elkayam is a casualty.

Publicly, a senior official said that France mourned with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This cowardly attack is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of antisemitic hatred that we must put a stop to,” the statement read.

One Child

A young girl, aged 10 who was taken to the a children's hospital succumbed to her injuries, authorities stated.

One Israeli Citizen

An Israeli citizen was among those killed during the attack, according to multiple sources citing the Israeli foreign ministry.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people transported to hospital, a significant number are still receiving treatment, with several in serious condition. Those hurt comprise two officers who responded to the attack.

One of the injured is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to confront one of the gunmen. Described as a hero, he received gunshot wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Sources state he was hurt and underwent treatment in hospital.

He wrote, he recounted the incident as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the response of those who rushed to help. He said he believed it was a “miracle” he survived.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the attack. He described he listened to “dozens and dozens” of shots.

“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I sustained a gunshot wound. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
