The Showrunner Shares He Has an Idea of How Pluribus Will Conclude... Currently.
The creative mastermind did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”
As the debut season of the hit series wrapping up—and the next chapter already in development—the creative team opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.
About the Tremendous Audience Reaction
Anyone might to get swayed by the constant speculation and online debates regarding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to avoid both.
“It's like being an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I learn of it from others, and that's intentional. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”
Despite his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.
“We don't try to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by online forums.”
“Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.
A Pressing Query: Has the creator Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?
Given that Gilligan and his team are not listening by audience theories, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… sort of.
“We have some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to throw out a decent plan for a better idea. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”
Then again, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.
“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”
Then again, one could always use the classics?
“My dream is Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.
Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
